There are A LOT of things I love about living in a little town along the shores of gorgeous Lake Michigan. A lot. There is, however, an unmistakable pull toward the big city, especially for me, Detroit. I grew up a few miles north of the city so it’s fun to be near my old stomping grounds, and big cities always seem to have this buzz of energy that I love. So, I was thrilled to take a mini road trip east to shoot Wendy & Matt’s wedding in downtown Detroit. It was really cool to see the way these two families blended together. It was a wonderful day and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it. Congratulations to Matt & Wendy!!

I wish I could put into words how amazing Jessica and Ryan are together. I guess I’m lucky that you can see it in their photos. Look at the way she looks at him. Look at his body language when he’s holding her. You can see it plain as day. These two were meant to be together. I loved a lot of things about this wedding – gorgeous location in Grand Rapids, super cool venue for the reception (San Chez – yumm-o!), stunning couple… but what made it most fun for me was watching Jessica and Ryan as they started this chapter of their lives together. Thank you for having me be a part of your day!

I don’t know how it is that I happen to always have the best clients getting married in West Michigan, but I do! Anne and Rob are two of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet. And fun. They both have a sense of joy and ease. I loved shooting this wedding, and not just because my husband Cory (who is a phenomenal photojournalist) shot with me. Rob and Anne’s wedding was everything you’d want your wedding to be. They were surrounded by friends and family and as the day unfolded it really told their story. It was a ton of fun to be able to capture that. And, it was an awesome summer day in Grand Haven with great weather, which always makes for a happy photographer. Thank you, Rob & Anne. It was a blast!

Of all the things I love, newborns have to be in the top tier! This little guy was a dream to photograph, and not only because he didn’t pee on me, but because he really is just so sweet. I could have snuggled him all day long!

There are a few things that never get old for me. One of those is how gorgeous West Michigan really is. Sure, it can snow 6 months out of the year, but on a warm fall day when the autumn colors are practically glowing in the sunset you kinda forgive Old Man Winter’s long stay. Another thing that never gets old is a momma-to-be. So, imagine my excitement when I got to combine the stunning fall colors at their peak with a new mom at her peak! I had a lot of fun on this session and the locations were not only beautiful but also meaningful and included the little red school house where this couple was married two years ago, and the mom’s childhood home. I’m glad we did the session when we did because their little guy showed up a few short days after we took these photos! Be on the lookout for some newborn photos of him soon, but before that here are the maternity photos…
