Thanks for looking through my photography. Here's a little bit about what I do:
Wedding Photographer: Documentary Wedding Photography
Because of my background in photojournalism, documentary photography comes most naturally to me and so I love weddings. They are fast paced and high energy, even if it's a small intimate affair. I enjoy getting to know my brides and grooms as individuals and shooting their day in a way that tells their unique story. No two weddings are alike and I like finding those details that set each one apart. Shoot me a text (616-283-2929) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I'll send you my wedding information guide.
Children's Photographer: Candid or Formal Studio Portrait Photography
I know first hand how quickly that new baby grows into a walking, talking child hopping on the Kindergarten bus for the first time practically over night. Children grow and change so quickly and if you don't stop once in awhile and document who they are that very day it'll be gone in a heartbeat.
I love to photograph children because of their honesty. What two year-old have you ever known to be able to give you a good fake smile? Not one of those cheesy, squinted eyes, toothy smiles but a real genuine smile? Children don't care what kind of camera you have, what kind of light there is, or how much time you have. They care that they feel happy, secure, and are having fun. I enjoy building a relationship with the children I photograph so we can have fun and together I am able to capture true smiles and happiness from them.
I love variety, which is good because no child is the same as another. And no one family's needs are the same as the next. Some parents love the clean, classic look of a studio shot and others are looking for the feel a beach shoot at sunset offers. I enjoy finding the things that make your family unique and creating amazing portraits for you.
Baby Photographer: Newborn, Infant, and Birth Photography
There is a time just after dawn that is referred to as the golden hour. Morning light is amazing, soft, calm, and wonderful. It lasts only a little while before the sun is bright and high in the sky. There is also a time, just after a baby is born, where he or she is the most delicate, squishy, sleepy, and wonderful. Much like daybreak, this time for newborns is fleeting, lasting only a few days. It's a brief calm that is gone before bleary-eyed new parents even realize it. I love, love, love to photograph newborns in their first few days of life. Even at this young age every baby has a personality, likes, and dislikes. I enjoy discovering whom that little baby is and how he or she wants to be photographed.
Being a documentary photographer by nature it just seemed natural to begin documenting the births of my clients. Many people don't understand birth photography and think it's like having your nosy aunt in your face flashing a camera during labor and delivery. Nothing could be further from the truth! I work with each couple to design the type of service that is perfect for them. It can be as detailed or as modest as you please. Because of my years as a photojournalist I am able to capture the event in a calm, quiet, and respectful manner.
Studio, On Location, and Natural Settings
Photography sessions can be scheduled at your home, favorite park, Lake Michigan beach, rural, or downtown setting. In addition to taking portraits of my clients in their unique and natural environment, I can also bring a portable studio to almost any location.
